I had developed a strong muscle base over the past two years by commuting to work daily (20+ kms) and things where going well. I had excellent endurance and strength. And then 3 weeks ago I got covid for a 2nd time. This time it was very harsh and I was hospitalized for a week because 50% of my lungs were done by covid. During that time I lost 6 kilos which were mostly body muscles. Then I began walking to recover for the past ten days. Today I finally went for a ride to see how I do or if I can do the commute to work. Boy I felt this is the first time that I've ridden a bike. It was so hard going forward. I guess it will take a long time to recover from this. Muscles and lungs are amply destroyed. Have you guys any experience regarding covid recovery? Any tips? Thanks. Edit: Thanks a lot to all the comments and experiences. Just felt I need to mention a couple of things in here: 1. Vaccine was not available to me or I would have taken it the first moment, I'm not an antivaxxer. 2. I was careful a lot always wearing double masks and avoiding public transport but my work is not remote so I get in touch with other people and as infection rates are high, exposure to virus becomes inevitable esp. with the delta variant. 3. From the comments I realized that progress may be faster than what I initially thought but I have to first check my heart to make sure I don't have possible inflammation or myocarditis. Thanks again to all fellow cyclist. You make world a more sane and lovely place.

Hi y'all. Just wanted to simply share an experience I had today that made this bike trip the best yet. I set out on my normal 30 mile journey, and passed an actual cyclist going the other way around mile 14. I turned around at mile 15 and eventually caught him at mile 19 for myself. He then proceeded to draft behind me for about 4 miles, basically pushing me, to push him. Just made me feel like I was helping a stranger better themselves and likewise for him. Plus we averged 18.5 mph for those 4 miles (I have a hybrid bike so that's pushing it I'd say). Anyways, I hope someone out there can find someone to push them to the next level. 👍

Fahre ich heute die Straße mit meinem Lastenrad herunter und höre von hinten einen Mercedes Pickup anrauschen. An der Geschwindigkeit war schon zu erkennen, dass der Typ nicht vor hatte die 100m bis zur nächsten Kreuzung hinter mir zu bleiben. Da die Straße aber ein Überholen mit maximal 50-70cm hergibt, ziehe ich etwas nach links und unterbinde das (darf man das eigentlich? - für mich ist es zumindest jedes Mal Selbstschutz). Typ fängt komplett an durchzudrehen inklusive hupen, Motor aufheulen und bis auf 50cm an mich ranfahren und Beleidigungen. ​ An der Kreuzung 100m weiter halte ich an, mache Foto von seinem Auto, was ihn komplett zum austicken bringt. Da fängt der Typ mit seiner Wampe doch tatsächlich an hinter mir herzulaufen und ruft noch "Du H\*\*\*sohn, lösch das Foto. Dich werde ich noch finden". ​ Wie geht ihr mit solchen Situationen um? Anzeige werde ich definitiv stellen, da meine Freundin als Zeugin auch direkt hinter mir fuhr. Einfach unglaublich frustrierend immer wieder solche Aktionen als Fahrradfahrer zu erleben. Throwaway übrigens, da ich das wie gesagt noch zu Anzeige bringen werde.

Hi there, today was the 2022 product launch of german bicycle manfacturer Cube. In their top-of-the-range road bike series Litening C:68X they have the "Race" model (4699€), which comes with an redactet groupset (" \[This component is subject to an embargo until 31.08.21\] "). The pricing is about 200€ above the SRAM Force AXS Version. I first thought it may be the new Dura-Ace 9200, but then realized that this groupset will likely be on the "SLT" model (6999€). All models come disc only.Now let's speculate, what grouset it may be. Shape and color of shifters and chainset make ist seem very likely that it's a Shimano groupset. It looks pretty similar to the redacted pictures of the SLT model, which will very likely come with Dura-Ace 9200, but the "Dura-Ace"-text seems to be missing on the chainset. Also, the frame and fully integrated handlebars are, as far as I know, only compatible with electronic groupsets, so it will very likely be a Di2 group. Because of the cost and subtile differences I doubt it will be the Dura-Ace, and the price more expensive than Force AXS make it seem unlikely it is something like an 105 Di2. The only viable conclusion is that this bike will come with Ultegra Di2. Now, I don't think the R8000 is subject to an embargo, so my guess is it will be - as far as I can tell - the first sign we may see a new Ultegra groupset, released alongside Dura-Ace 9200. What do you think? Despite the hard sales pitch by the people at the bike store that I would be horribly chafed, I have done just fine in my regular running clothes. I bike 10-20 miles at a time for fitness. I slowly bike 3 miles or so for commuting and groceries in street clothes. Comfort is not a problem. I have also noticed that in Europe the bike lanes are full of people in street clothes going about their day without padded shorts or any problems. I looked up the history of the shorts, and the padded bike shorts used by cyclists today were largely developed to deal with scratchy wool shorts that were used the early 1900s. Modern workout clothing and underwear is vastly better in terms of chafing and dealing with moisture than what was available during the early days of cycling. I can see that in something like the Tour de France specialized clothing is important, but at what level of riding do the padded shorts start to really matter? 20 mile rides are well below the threshold for needing them, in my experience.
